Alex Pattison completed his PhD in 2021 with Wolfgang Theis at the University of Birmingham, UK, where he examined the application of automation and machine learning to scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). He is now continuing this work as a postdoctoral researcher working under Peter Ercius at NCEM, LBNL, where he is looking at extending this work to 4D-STEM as well as looking automating low-level tasks like aberration correction and CBED recognition.
