Isei Tanida is an Associate Professor at Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine since 2015. He focuses on neurodegeneration and autophagy-lysosome system, and investigates neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis and techniques for in-resin CLEM.
He developed techniques for in-resin CLEM of Epon-embedded cultured cells using osmium tetroxide resistant fluorescent proteins, proximity labeling, affinity labeling, and immunological reactions. Recently, he revealed the ultrastructural abnormalities in the activation of glial cells and TUNEL-positive signals in the thalamus of CNS-specific cathepsin D knockout mice, a mouse model of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, using in-resin CLEM with immunological reactions.
He received is Ph.D in Biology from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1997, working with Prof. Yasuhiro Anraku. After completing his Ph.D, he accepted an assistant professor position in the Department of Biochemistry at Juntendo University. In 2006, he moved to the Department of Cell Biology at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japan as a Section Chief.
