Cody Brazel is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, under the advisement of Dr. Josh Sakon. Cody's work is centered on characterizing the dynamics and intact structure of Collagenases G and H from Hathewaya histolytica. His research aims to deepen the understanding of these enzymes' roles and mechanisms through the use of SAXS, Mass Spectrometry, HS-AFM, computation, and Cryo-EM. His recent work also includes the implementation of cost-effective sample preparation techniques for Cryo-EM in both research and teaching laboratories. Cody is particularly interested in the intersection of structural and computational biology and is actively seeking opportunities to apply his expertise in industry or academia.
Cody's previous education includes a Bachelor's degree in Cellular and Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry and a Master's degree in Natural Science from Southeast Missouri State University. Under the advisement of Dr. Christina Ragain, Cody's master's research focused on the expression and purification of fruit fly proteins of the terminin complex, as well as computational studies on the interactions of a phenylene reductase with flavin mono-nucleotide substrate.
