Aaron Torpy graduated with a degree in applied physics from RMIT University in Melbourne in 2001. Since then, he has been gainfully employed by the Mineral Resources business unit of the CSIRO, in the field of electron microscopy, x-ray spectrometry, cathodoluminescence spectroscopy, data processing, and custom software / hardware development and integration. Aaron has particular interest in methods for efficient and holistic characterisation of complex mineral specimens, usually via hyperspectral mapping in an electron microprobe, SEM, and/or micro-XRF. Hyperspectral mapping is his jam, and he co-authored the MSA standard on hyperdimensional data files, known as HMSA. Aaron has regularly presented at the Australian conferences on Microscopy and Microanalysis and Microbeam Analysis since 2001, thrice as an organising committee member, and sporadically presented at M&M since 2013, twice as a symposium co-organiser.
