Colin MacRae
Senior Principle Research Scientist, Director Microbeam and Diffraction Laboratories, CSIRO Mineral Resources based in Mlebourne, Australia. He directs research in the Microanalysis and X-ray diffraction groups which are the key electron beam microcharacterisation and x-ray research facilities for Minerals and Mineral Processing problems within CSIRO. Colin has a strong interest in the application of hyperspectral mapping in the electron microprobe to solve industrial problems related to the minerals industry.
Most recently Colin has been at the forefront of the development of hyperspectral cathodoluminescence and soft X-ray collection in combination with hyperspectral EDS. With the introduction of this combined technique he has developed new optical systems and analysis procedures so that the cathodoluminescence signal can be quickly analysed, the emitting ions identified and the emission quantified. He has also been instrumental in the development of LN mapping and analysis with EPMA’s.
